How important is it to you that you get to choose your own reading material at school. Pleas give reasons to justify your answer.

I think choosing your own material is debateable. i like reading the material i bring, but if some people hadn't forced some books on me i never would have gotten hooked on my fvorite series. plus, from what i've been forced to read so far this year Glass Castle, and the excerpt from Twilight, the curriculum has gotten much better than such books as lord of the flies and anything shakespeare (no offense mrs. Barban). so while i love reading my own material, if the curriculum is like this all year long, i wont complain.
I think choosing my own reading material is great. It gives people a chance to read what they like and what they enjoy. When people are forced to read something they don't like they usually end up not reading the book. When i get to choose my own books i usualyy get sucked into them and never want to stop reading. So my opionion is we should be able to read are own books and not have someone else choosing the books for us.
I think it is incredibly important that we (the students) get to choose what we want to read in class because I think that we will read the book and pay more attention to the book, that we choose. I came to this conclusion because we’ll be more interested in the book itself. I also think that students will take a better liking in school if we were given more of a choose in what we read/learn during school itself. If the students are more interested in the book then it will get us more involved in the book and it will give us a better chance to express our thoughts. This is why I think it is incredibly important that we (the students) get to choose.
i honestly could care less if we get to pick our own books because i read the books and understand them but i have yet to read a book that i actually liked reading
I think that getting to chose your own book is fairly important so people will enjoy reading and won't feel forced into it, but there's also people who don't know what to read and making the choice themselves doesn't really matter and may even make matters worse. If we could have a list of books to choose from rather than one book that half the class will enjoy and the other half will hate is just one solution that I would prefer. That might even get people into other books on the list, especially if other people in the class liked them.
well to me it just does not matter. i can pick any book i want i and still dont seem to like it. i just dont know what it is. the only thing is that the school books are not good at all. so if i had to chose i would bring my own. the teachers all ways pick boring books and then we have to do those really fun question asking and coneections with them (NOT). With the books you can pick most the time they are already related to you some way soyou really dont have to think about it.
Thanks for your input. Baseball24, please let me know who you are in class. I don't have a paper for you, and I can't give you points unless I know your identity.
I think that choosing our own materials is important because when I am forced to read books, I don't read them carfully and I never get into them and I find myself struggling to finish. Not only that but when we read books as a class I'm forced to drag a book out for 3 months that could take me 2 weeks and I have to drag it or I'll forget stuff because again I don't get into the subject matter. Also the subject matter of many of the books doesn't interest me in the least because I am a very picky reader so when teachers allow us to read our own books I can read the books at a much quicker pace.
I think it is very important for us to pick our own material, because before I was in this class I did not like to read because the school I used to go to, even when I was allowed to pick my own books it was still debated wether it was educational or whatever you want to call it qualified for me to read and get somthing out of it. Here, they know what we like and even then we still now get to pick our own books no matter what it is. even if it was somthing like reading about the United states Marine Core. to some fantasy fictional magic book because they know if you let us pick what book we want and we enjoy reading it (which makes it easy to get good grades on)we will

choosing our own reading material is great! it give us students the choice to read whatever our own intrest is.
